New feature: MULTI-LINGUAL

Submitted by Paul Brown

Since the server was offline for week, I figured I should take advantage of the downtime to do something new. So now I can post in English and in Portuguese and everybody can see in the language they prefer! Naturally I will accept corrections, especially to the Portuguese text. What I don't manage to translate, I'll just put in English since I know you all understand everything! =)

Let me know what you think!

Friends are Friends Forever

Submitted by Paul Brown

To say goodbye, my church in Porto organized a little "lanche jantarado" Saturday evening. One of the songs that was presented was one I had never heard translated to Portuguese and in English probably I haven't heard it since high school graduation time: Friends are Friends forever. (I don't have the translation to Portuguese with me, but when I get it I'll put it here, too.)

Friends are Friends Forever

Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can't believe the hopes He's granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends.

With the faith and love God's given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray the joy you'll live in
Is the strength that now you show

But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

For those in Christ, we never really say goodbye; instead, it's "until always." Still, absence leaves a feeling of loss, what in Portuguese they call "saudades". Eu tenho muitas.... Grande abraço para todos vós!

Thesis defense

Submitted by Paul Brown

It hasn't been officially scheduled yet, but Dr. McCalley from Iowa State will be on the jury would like it to be on Friday, July 28. That means there is a very good chance that it will be then. =) In fact the chance is so good that Prof. Peças Lopes here in Porto told me to go ahead and buy tickets! So I did!! It was hard not to cry at the price tag, but travelling in the summer is like that.... I just have to remind myself that having an M.S. will make it worthwhile.

The flights are actually pretty good: 15 hours 15 minutes to get from Denver to Porto and 17 hours and 8 minutes to get back. I have to travel on Sunday, which I usually avoid, but that's when I could. There is no law that says that one has to be in church every Sunday!
