October 2006

Since all the cool kids are doing it....

The first one I tried came out just plain messed up (seriously, Coolio as a top match??). This one below came out a little better:

paul's supposed celebrity look alikes

Ouchy

Paul's swollen, slightly bruised sprained ankle

I was playing basketball yesterday and in a scramble for a loose ball I got what seems to me to be a minor sprain to my left ankle. This is the first time I remember doing anything like that, so I looked up some info online about sprained ankles. From what they describe, it looks to be a type 1 sprain, which would be the least serious. It swelled up and has some bruising, but I can put weight on it and move it and walk, albeit at a shuffle. I hope I'll be back to walking normally within a couple of days, although they do say that the recovery time can range from a few days to a few weeks.

Retrospective

Sometimes I look back at the year that has passed by and am amazed that so much has happened. Of my 25.2 trips around the sun, this last one sure seems to have been the most intense.

Google knows all

I have started seeing in my logs that some people are being referred to my site by Google, especially to my gallery for photos. There seem to be basically two popular shots.

1. Searching for "handsome guy" leads them to
some random handsome guy

2. Searching for "toyota corolla" gives
my 2006 Toyota Corolla

I find the first one very ironic, although Elsa really did take a pretty good picture of me.

Site++

I finally got the site upgraded to Drupal version 4.7 and (I think) finished up the template. It took much more work than I expected, but I learned a lot about page layout with CSS and database manipulation with SQL.

I'd LOVE to know what you think! Give me your opinion!

How shall we live?

Every man dies. Not every man really lives. -- William Wallace in Braveheart

Ultimately, we're all dead men. Sadly, we cannot choose when, but we can decide how we meet that end, so that we are remembered as men. -- Proximo in Gladiator

Sometimes we must give up something good to attain what is better....

I'm cutting way back on the internet this week. Here's the kind of good stuff I get into when I pry myself away from checking email, watching for new blog posts, and working on my new website design.

Praise the LORD, O my soul;
   all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul,
   and forget not all his benefits-
who forgives all your sins
   and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
   and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
   so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Anyone else find this ironic?

Two Turkish men hijacked a jet in protest of the Pope's comments that painted Islam as religion of violence. (Read the news story on CNN).

I know I said I wouldn't post more before the upgrade, but the irony here was just too rich to resist commenting on. What message do you suppose they were trying to send?

UPDATE: See Mehmet's comment below! The initial reports were incorrect and it had nothing to do with the Pope's comments, nor was the hijacker Muslim.
